Matchbook Betting Exchange Review - Good coverage of US sports

Industry low commission rate of 2% Ts & Cs Apply

Industry low commission rate of 2%

Matchbook already competes with the other exchanges by keeping its commission low, but their new promotion offers all customers an industry-low commission rate of 2%. While this might not sound immediately impressive, if you place £/€100 on a winning bet at odds of 2.0 this means your profit will be £/€100 x 2% = £/€98

The only downside to this Matchbook offer is that it’s limited to horse racing only. To be eligible for this offer, you need to access the Matchbook markets directly through its website or mobile app, not an API or trading software. From what we can tell by checking the terms and conditions for this offer, you don’t need to use a bonus code to access the offer. Simply sign up and start taking advantage of Matchbook’s generous low commission rate.

With so many different betting platforms online, finding the right site to spend your money it is a daunting prospect. Each site has different offers with different betting requirements, so it all comes down to figuring out the one that works for you.

Below, we take a look at the difference between Matchbook and Smarkets to help you determine which is the best for your betting money.

The Welcome Offers

Let’s start with the welcome offers. Both Matchbook and Smarkets have gone all out to attract and retain new players.

Matchbook has a fairly generic offer that some argue is more of a feature than a lucrative welcome offer. Still, keep an eye out for the site’s bonus code to make sure you get the best bang for your bucks.

On the other hand, Smarkets has an excellent offer that provides you with an easily calculated bonus to kick things off with. It also presents more opportunities to try out different markets, which is a great way of getting a feel for the site.

The Betting Markets

This isn’t an easy call. Both Matchbook and Smarkets have an excellent variety of daily games and events for you to bet on. If we really have to pick one over the other, we’d say Smarkets wins based on the variety and number of markets. While the brands offer a pretty similar choice of sports, Smarkets just has a few more interesting things to bet on, especially when it comes to Current Affairs where you can bet on markets like Amazon HQ2, who will be the next Bank of England Governor and things like that.

Besides all that, Smarkets has a more detail-oriented user interface in terms of specific events and betting information.

Matchbook seems to provide a more simplified overview of odds, whereas Smarkets goes a step further and gives you a chart that shows the current state of the betting exchange for an event. It might only be a slight difference between the two exchanges, but it’s one that makes Smarkets stand out in terms of betting markets.

The Odds

Whether we’re discussing the commission rate or the quality of the odds, Matchbook wins this point. For starters, Matchbook’s welcome offer directly affects the commission rate, already making it a win with odds.

What’s more, Matchbook simply gives better odds on handicap bets, particularly for football.

The Live Betting

After carefully reviewing both Smarkets and Matchbook’s live betting features, and realising the differences are indeed rather small, Smarkets gets our vote. It’s mostly because Smarkets’ live betting interface provides a decent overview of the live events taking place at any given moment.

On the flip side, Matchbook offers a live betting page where the events are put together with no option to filter them by sports category, which can be a little cumbersome, especially if you’re keen to place your bet quickly. What Matchbook does have, though, is a lot more live betting events compared to Smarkets.

When it comes to choosing one over the other in this category, we just think it’s nicer to have neatly sorted view of the games than not being able to filter through the events.

On the downside, neither betting exchange currently offers live streaming services. So, we didn’t really take this feature into account when reviewing the two platforms.

It’s worth keeping in mind that, for both platforms, certain funding and features may not be available depending on where you’re betting from.

The Mobile App

Matchbook has a great looking mobile app with a simple user interface, but our vote for best app between the two exchanges has got to go to Smarkets. Users seem to agree since the brand’s native app has much higher scores on both mobile platforms.

Smarkets has simply put a decent amount of effort into the development of their mobile app for a superior betting on the go experience. For example, their iOS native app takes up just half the amount of space on your mobile device compared to Matchbook’s iOS app, yet they both pretty much have the same features. Smarket’s app, therefore, is more efficient.

While both brands have apps for download on iOS and Android platforms, Smarkets’ mobile app just boasts better features and a better overall design. You can tell they’re focused on mobile punters; which Matchbook isn’t aiming for right now.

Which Betting Exchange Wins?

Overall, when it comes to picking the best betting exchange between Matchbook and Smarkets, our vote goes to Smarkets. While the differences between the platforms are small, Smarkets wins on welcome offer, mobile app and markets, whereas if odds are all that counts to you, Matchbook is better in that area.
