UFC 244 Kelvin Gastelum V Darren Till
UFC 244 Kelvin Gastelum V Darren Till – Build Up
As well as scheduling probably the most exciting fight so far this year with the main event of Masvidal V Diaz UFC 244 has a co-main event that is worthy of being the main event on its own card. The UFC is spoiling us here on November the 2nd in Madison Square Garden giving us Kelvin Gastelum V Darren Till in the middleweight division.
Gastelum takes this fight on having lost his last fight to now Interim Middleweight Champion Israel Adesanya. Gastelum lost nothing in defeat in that fight and it was a back and forth decision verdict. Before that Gastelum had two impressive victories against Michael Bisping and Ronaldo Souza. He is ranked number 4 in the world and is rightly atop the pile of contenders in the middleweight division.
Go back a year and Darren Till was in everyone’s eyes the new kid on the block, the new face of MMA and the new Conor McGregor. Brash in interviews and with 17 victories and no loses the ceiling was high for Till. Fast forward a year and Till is coming off two devastating loses, the first for the Welterweight Championship and the second his first fight in the UFC Middleweight Division. The calibre of fighter he faced in both fights cannot be questioned but more was expected from Till. Many thought of him as the next in line Welterweight Champion. Currently ranked number 8 in the welterweight division Till will be aiming to win this fight and go straight into the top five of the middleweight division.
Both fighters enter this fight with much to prove. Gastelum’s career was an upward trajectory until his most recent loss and Till badly needs to win to reignite his career and move again towards a title shot. There is a lot of respect between each fighter, however, both feel they have the correct tools to unlock the other and come away with a victory at UFC 244.
There is a lot of knockout power between both fighters. Each fighter has their fair share of highlight level knockouts, Gastelum possesses a vicious left hand while Till’s stand up game is very strong. The wrestling and the ground game would be where Gastelum has the advantage in this fight. A wrestler before he became a mixed martial artist he has several submissions in his career. Till tends to knock out his opponents with punches and elbows being his style of attack, he also has some skills with his feet. A close fight in my opinion but one that will go the way of Kelvin Gastelum. He is the more mature fighter of the two, he has been through loses and has shown he can rebound in style from them. This stands to a fighter and I think he will shade with a late knockout or by unanimous decision. Paddy Power has the fight priced up Kelvin Gastelum the favourite at 4/7 and Darren Till closely matched with him at 5/4.
