The Ryder Cup: The Teams

The 2018 Ryder Cup was attended by people from different parts of the world gathering to witness the unfolding the anticipated match between Europe and USA.

The 42nd Ryder Cup that took place in France on the Albatros Course of Le Golf National showed that team USA was still no match for Europe. The Powerful USA team which consisted of the mighty Tiger Woods was supposed to retain the Ryder Cup. That remained a dream after the Europe team showed excellent team play and dominated the USA.

The 17½-10½ loss was the biggest in Americans’ Ryder Cup history. The European players were clearly made of a dozen players that outshined their American counterpart making more putts and hitting more fairways. The USA team’s poor performance was blamed on lack of proper preparation, rough and thick fairways.

With the events of 2018 put to book now, the spectators are already preparing for the upcoming 2020 match. The 2020 Ryder Cup will take place from 22nd to 27th September at Whistling Straits, Kohler in the USA. The USA team is expected to come fully prepared to take revenge on the Europe team for the Paris defeat while the Europe team is also expected to fight hard to retain the trophy.

The Wild Cards

Viktor Hovland- Team Europe

Only four months after turning pro and Hovland has already caught the attention of the 2020’s Ryder Cup captain, Pádraig Harrington. If by chance Hovland doesn’t secure himself an automatic position, he still has higher chances of falling on the list of captain’s pick.

Tiger Woods- Team USA

Tiger Woods has low chances of being in the top 8 golfers to qualify automatically for the Ryder Cup 2020. However, being a big name and a Ryder Cup veteran player, it is hard to envision him out of the 12 players from the Ryder Cup. Woods, therefore, have high chances of being among the four players on the captain picks.
