Spread Bet on Politics

Don’t worry you did not misread the title of this article. It is possible to place wagers on Political Elections. It seems that the love of Wagering is not limited to just sports and Pop Culture but has now made it into our Electoral System. Although it may seem somewhat strange at first when you think about it, it’s not really that absurd. Just think about how you talk to your friends about who you all think is going to win. One way that we can bet on the outcome of an Election is by betting on the Spread that is laid out for each candidate.

The most important Election is most countries is the Presidential Election so we are going to use that as an example. When Barack Obama ran for President in 2008 it was a historical moment. Although it was historic not everyone believed that the United States was ready for its first African American President so his chances of winning were uncertain. On the other end his opponent, John Mccain, met the typical mould of many of our past Presidents. This situation created a very interesting Spread regarding who would win the Election.

One thing that we could bet on in the Election would be how many Electoral Votes Barack Obama would get. It would be much easier to guess how many states he would win compared to whether he would win the entire election. The reason for this is that as a Democrat there are states that historically vote for the Democratic candidate regardless of who it necessarily is. At that point you would just have to gauge how many of the Swing States you thought that Obama would win by the end of the Election. For instance if you were betting on the fact that Obama was going to win the election handily you could have placed a Spread Bet saying that he would have gotten over 300 of the possible 538 Electoral Votes.

The Presidential Elections are normally very interesting on their own but in 2016 you can make them even more interesting by Betting on it.
