Betting on the Spread isn’t the same kind of betting you used to do with your buddies. Betting  on Spreads has to do with betting on the amount of points a team will win or lose. For instance, if the New York Knicks are playing the Los Angeles Lakers tonight you can bet on it. The Lakers are favoured to win by 14 points because they have been on a hot streak but you somehow found out before the Public that their star player was going to be out. You put in a bet saying that the Knicks would not lose by more than 13 points. The end of the game comes and the Knicks lost in double overtime and by a last minute two point jump shot. In this case you won the bet and beat the spread because the Knicks only lost by two points instead of fourteen or more.

While Spread Betting on Basketball can turn out very good, it can also go the other way. Say that you just went out on a whim on the same Knicks and Lakers game and said that the Lakers were going to cover the spread of 14 points because you didn’t know that their star player was going to be injured. In this case you would lose the bet because the Lakers didn’t cover the spread.
